Welcome to Jobs for Maine's Graduates at Deering High School!
University of New England, M.S. Ed. Teaching Methodology & University of Southern Maine, B.A. Sociology
I began working at Portland Public Schools in 2009. I was an ed tech and a social studies teacher before transitioning to my role at Deering High School as the High School Specialist for Jobs for Maine’s Graduates. I have also been the Head Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at Deering High School since 2011.
What I love about JMG is the positivity and engagement of our students. I get to teach real-life topics that are both meaningful and fun! I get to build amazing relationships with students, local businesses, and community partners, and I get to collaborate with some of the most amazing staff at Deering High School.
I enjoy soccer, chess, politics, history, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. I recently moved from Portland to Gorham with my wife, my daughter, and my dog.
Each program is tailored to fit the needs of students and our school partners, but all programs share common factors of competency-based and experiential-based curriculum delivered by a student-centered JMG Specialist, who tracks the outcomes of their program.
The JMG high school core program is offered in partnership with public schools, and all programs are offered as a for-credit course. The primary objective of the core program is to keep students fully engaged in high school through graduation, leading to enrollment in post-secondary education, a continued education credential or training program, or a quality job with a career pathway. We also provide a year of follow-up for seniors who graduate our program.
Our curriculum focuses on career exploration, job attainment skills, leadership development, community service, post-secondary planning, financial literacy, and other personal skills.
