Questionnaire

In Communication, Sam is MEETING the PEA standard for candidacy. Though Sam is not active on social media, his website does outline specific goals and his answers to the questionnaire are direct, cite sources, and provide clear ideas for how to accomplish his goals.

In Action and Support for Public Education and the PEA, Sam is an APPROACHING+ candidate. He has volunteered or otherwise supported PPS for over five years, has specific ideas about how to address issues of equity and poverty, and has a clear plan about how to involve educators in addressing the Portland Promise (and other school-related) goals. He supports a continued push to increase school funding, though to what is “realistically possible in a bipartisan way” rather than to the 55% mandated in 2004 by citizens’ referendum. He suggests that the Board and Portland’s state legislators work together to do so, but specifically how is unclear.
