Earth Science is an understanding of how the Earth and surrounding universe operate as a working system.  It is a science that is broken down into 4 different smaller branches of science. The four branches are Geology, Astronomy, Meteorology, and Oceanography.  

Geology is a study of the solid interior and exterior of planets, Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere (the gases surrounding the surface of planets), Oceanography is the study of the oceans and bodies of water that cover the earth's surface and Astronomy is the study of the universe and all the objects contained within.
