Understanding Learning Outcomes
Part of the learning journey is knowing what you're aiming for and how you're doing along the way. That's where Learning Outcomes come in. They outline the key skills and knowledge you'll gain from each part of your course.
Clarity and Focus: The outcomes tell you exactly what's important in each lesson, helping you focus your efforts.
Aligned Assessments: Your assessments are directly tied to these outcomes. The results will clearly show how you've performed on each outcome, giving you a clear picture of your strengths and areas for improvement.
Practice and Quizzes: All practice work and quizzes are labelled according to these outcomes. This means you can easily see how you're progressing and where you could put more effort.
Continuous Improvement: Using this information, you can target your studies more effectively, ensuring you're always improving and moving closer to mastering your course material.
Types of Outcomes
Acceptable Standard: You have a strong foundation to build on if you achieve the Acceptable Standards! You've learned the essential concepts and techniques in Math 30-1 and can apply this knowledge when you see problems you recognize. You're good with numbers, algebra, and understanding the concepts in general, plus you're solid at reading, making sense of things, and thinking through problems logically
Standard of Excellence: You've got a deep and broad understanding that sets you apart if you achieve Standard of Excellence. You've not only learned the concepts and techniques in Math 30-1 inside and out, but you can also flexibly apply what you know to problems you've seen before and ones you haven't. This means you're not just good but great with numbers, algebra, and all things math, plus you've got top-notch understanding and reasoning.
