Class overview
This course is designed for high school students who are curious, creative, and motivated to explore engineering, technology, and teamwork. Ideal participants enjoy designing, building, and programming mechanical systems, thrive in team-based projects, are motivated by innovation and competition, and want to develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills by developing a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Students will be expected to participate in a minimum of two district competitions in March and April.
About The Instructor
Mr. Wykrent has taught woodworking, construction trades, CAD, and robotics since 2002. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree in Industrial Technology Education and Vocational Certification in construction trades. He is also a licensed builder in the State of Michigan. Over the course of his career he has assisted students in building projects of their choice which include guitars, canoes, paddle boards, clocks, cutting boards, and even houses!
About The Assistant
Mr. Haworth graduated from PN in 2025. Throughout all four years of high school, he excelled in CTE Woodworking, with a particular focus on the technology aspects of the craft. He holds both a state license as a Medical First Responder and a national registration as an Emergency Medical Responder. Mr. Haworth joined the team for the 2025–2026 school year.
