12th Street Elementary Library

Welcome to the Amazing 12th Street Elementary Library!

Lifelong Learning                                                              begins with Reading

Here at 12th Street Elementary School, we strive to create lifelong learners.  The library fosters a community of learning and literacy that leads to high academic achievement, independent reading and learning,  and collaboration throughout the school.

We will be doing our very best to get (or keep) your children “hooked on reading” by recommending specific reading materials to each individual. We want to help them search out their favorite book.

New titles of the latest and most exciting new books for young readers are being added to the collection.  We also encourage students to make book  recommendations.

At each grade level, students will be learning research and library skills specifically suited to their developmental needs.

Ultimately, we hope each child at 12th Street Elementary loves the library!

Library Policies:

Students are responsible for handling library books with care. Please keep books away from pets, food, and all liquids. Help your child find a safe place to keep books at home and help them to return them on time.  Y5, Kindergarten and 1st grade will be able to check out 1 book each week. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade can have two books per week.  Grades 4th and 5th can have up to 3 checkouts.  All materials have a one week circulation period. A book may be renewed (checked out again) if the student is not finished reading it. Books need to be returned before new books can be borrowed.

Any book damage should be reported to the library as soon as possible so we can attempt repairs.  If the book is unable to be repaired due to extensive damages , students must pay for the replacement of all damaged materials before their borrowing privileges can be restored.   If a book is lost, a replacement must be provided by the family or replacement fee paid.  If lost book is found a refund will be issued.  Extenuating circumstances can be discussed with librarian on a case by case basis.

About the Librarian, Mrs. Flora

Hello All!  I am excited to be the 12th Street Elementary Librarian.  I love to read!  Some of my favorite authors are Mo Willems, Margaret Wise Brown, Lucy Maud Montgomery and Gail Gibbons.  When I'm not teaching, I am mom to my 2 children, Eli and Libby.  As a family we love to travel and explore the National Parks.   Keep reading, Jaguars! Remember, adventure awaits when you open a book.

About the Media Secretary,  Mrs. Downey

Hello!  I am excited to be a part of the Jaguar family again!  I served as Treasurer of the PTO for 7 years and as a library volunteer while my children attended 12th Street.  Now that they are all teenagers I spend a lot of time driving them around and watching them at their various activities.  When I get a free moment I enjoy reading fiction novels. I also love tap dancing and teach an adult class each week.  I hope to help make each student’s time in the library a positive experience!
