This section provides an opportunity for Reviewees to reflect on key aspects of their work over the last 12 months. The first questions on the online form are intended as a overview and provide an opportunity to have a general discussion around achievements, challenges and opportunities. Reviewees are then asked to provide more detail against each of their individual objectives that were agreed at the previous PDR meeting.
A review of objectives provides an opportunity to:
Review and assess performance against specific objectives, using examples and supporting evidence relevant to the individual’s role. Further guidance is available on the different sources of evidence .
Review and comment on achievements and understand any challenges encountered. Any objectives that have not been fully achieved may be carried forward where appropriate.
If a member of staff is new to their role the focus of the PDR should be on planning ahead and reviewing previous objectives should be treated as ‘not applicable’. If no objectives have previously been identified, Reviewees should reflect on the key tasks or projects they have been working on over the last 12 months.
It is essential that the PDR is not used as the first and only occasion to raise matters relating to performance. Performance should be discussed on an on-going basis. Feedback for a job well done should be given when the situation arises, likewise problems or concerns with performance should be addressed and discussed as they arise.
