Stepping UP

Stepping UP

As members of Team UoP, we encourage you to play your part in ‘Stepping UP’ by helping us to create positive club cultures for you to experience. Stepping UP helps us to build a sense of belonging, to give a positive student experience and empower students to achieve their full potential. It helps Team UoP staff to build a more in depth picture of club cultures, and any patterns of behaviour among our student members that may need intervention in terms of education and support (such as initiations or behaviour that negatively impacts on the student experience).

If you are a member of Team UoP and you are concerned about behaviour or club culture, we encourage you to Step UP and make us aware of your experience. The best way to do this is through our Stepping UP form or through the University's Report and Support Platform.

Report and Support: https://reportandsupport.port.ac.uk/

When completing the Team UoP Stepping UP form, you have 3 options:

Option 1: Make Team UoP staff aware of an incident/behaviour/negative experience confidentially. Team UoP staff may raise the matter with the individual/club concerned, but you will not be identified as having raised a concern. This option allows us to deal with a generic concern.

Option 2: Make Team UoP staff aware of an incident/behaviour/negative experience and ask us for advice on how to deal with the situation. This option allows us to help you directly.

Option 3: Formally report an incident/behaviour/negative experience and have a formal investigation carried out. Under this process we have to disclose who is making a complaint so that the matter can be fully investigated, but this will be part of a confidential process in which all participants will be reminded that they must not discuss this matter outside of the process. Any breach of this confidentiality will result in disciplinary action being taken.

What happens?

  1. Complete the Stepping UP form

  2. Member of Team UoP staff will review the information:

Option 1: No investigation will take place - warning and/or education given to individual/club involved where appropriate

Option 2: We will contact you to give you advice and offer support

Option 3: An investigation will take place - resolution, education and/or sanctions given where appropriate

We will need you to tell us why you have a concern and to give us as much information as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us Zoe.Monk@port.ac.uk
