‘Real world’ Coaching and Assessment Strategies
In this ‘Gimme 5’ session I outline how an ongoing community engagement (CE) programme, consisting of on-site sport coaching opportunities, has led to a variety of benefits related to assessment and employability for students at the University of Chichester (UoC). With the CE programme underpinning one of three successful UoC Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Awards in 2023, the rationale, justification, and story of how and why it was set up will be presented. Moreover, a range of implications and precepts of effective practice will be offered in the ‘Gimme 5’ format that will allow other educational professionals (in general within the HE context, and in particular for education and sport coaching type areas), an understanding of how ‘real-world’ approaches to teaching can be considered and implemented to improve the learning experience, and accelerate the professional development, of students.
