Using natural language prompts, e.g., “analyse the attached data using a 2 x 2 independent groups ANOVA,” AI will conduct, report, and interpret the findings of statistical analyses. If the correct AI is used in the correct way, the material produced is of very high quality. The first goal of the presentation is to provide very practical guidance about how to interact with AI to produce the highest quality outcomes, for example, what kinds of data files are most appropriate and what kinds of prompts should be used. The second goal is to briefly explain the process of how AI conducts statistical tests. In the final section of the presentation, I will provide examples of how AI can be used as a teaching tool, e.g., by creating your own custom statistics teaching AI. My conclusion is that AI is a huge opportunity for improving the teaching of data analysis. Learning how to use SPSS, Minitab, R, or Python does not, of itself, help in understanding what statistics mean. The use of AI can free us from the drudgery of teaching students how to use statistics packages and allow us to focus on students' understanding of how tests work and what results mean.
