Principal Lecturer, Learning at Work
Work-based learning (WBL) can enable students to focus University level thinking on workplace problems (Gibbs and Garnett, 2007). This can not only provide an opportunity for the student to gain the new knowledge, skills and behaviours required for their personal and professional development, but to add value to their organisation. Underpinning judgements with research is not only important to add rigour to decisions, it plays a central role in the learning process and supports transformative learning. It enables students to amplify learning and to capture it in a more meaningful way for themselves, their employers and the University.
