Students come to university expecting a good experience, this is a new venture in their life and there are going on a journey believing support will be readily available to them. Personal tutors play a major role in this journey, with their support it can either make or break student experience. Agreed, lecturers also have a massive role, but I see personal tutors (PT) as those individuals who cement the experience. They certainly did mine. PT should be seen to be inspiring
change, tutees feeling empowered to make a positive impact on the world, helping tutees to pursue their dreams, it is about supporting every tutee and ensuring they feel a sense of belonging, and most importantly as our tutees are very diverse, it is about helping them to understand the impact they can make in any profession.
Personal tutees do matter!
The aims of the session are to:
Demonstrate an understanding of tutees expectation of the role of their personal tutor
Be mindful of how some tutees lack that sense of belonging and how an active PT can make the difference
Understand how you as a PT can contribute to the success or failure of a tutee
