The session will provide a brief overview of the professional military education (PME), and it will highlight the unique characteristics of the military environment, pointing out differences between traditional university students and military learners.
Even though PME is a niche area, many pedagogical practices used and developed by PME practitioners can be used at universities, and there are lessons to be learned.
The session will include a case study of professional military education delivered by Portsmouth Military Education teams, currently based at Royal Air Force (RAF) College Cranwell and RAF Halton, that teach RAF’s officer cadets and non-commissioned officers, respectively.
The aims of the session are to:
Provide a brief overview of professional military education, highlighting the unique nature of military environment and military learners
Identify professional military education practices that can be implemented in a wider higher education environment
