In recent years, decision making for others (DMfO) has be come a very active but still small field of research. The decision-maker in standard economics models is a self-interested utility maximiser without social preferences. Hence, those theories cannot capture an environment in which people make decisions on behalf of others. Most other-regarding preference models focus on resource allocations, but neglect the preference structures. The main area of research on DMfO focusses on differences between decisions for oneself and for others, situational personality traits and situational context that influence these decisions, and why people prefer to play an active or passive role in such situations
The aim of the conference is to discuss the current topics, developments and latest research methods in this field. We hope that the discussions will foster the coordination of future research and the extension of our interdisciplinary research network will further strengthen the advances made in the coming years.
The program will consist of presentations and posters but will also feature a moderated discussion session to organize results, developments and future topics on DMfO. We have a number of invited presentations by international experts from various fields (Economics, Finance, Psychology, Neuroscience) and we will enrich this with a number of submitted presentations. We hope to welcome you in Portsmouth!
Our conference is sponsored by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation's Conference Grant Programme and the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Business and Law.
We would like to thank the funders for their support without which this conference would not have been possible.
