Miss. Morton's Music Class
Music is available as a special for grades K-8 at PJPII.
For grades K-2, our learning goals are to listen and move to music, learn how to safely use classroom instruments, and to develop a sense of pitch and steady beat. We also emphasize using music as a form of worship and prayer.
In grades 3-5, we use solfege to learn pitch and learn more complex rhythms. We will also begin reading notation, discussing music history, and learning to sing in the Mass.
In grades 6-8, we will compose music using standard notation on both online tools and physical paper. We dive deeper into different musical eras, genres, and composers, and connect music to other subject areas (such as math, history, religion, and languages).
Johann Sebastian Bach (my personal favorite)
We will be using xylophones across all grades!
