What Does A School Counselor Do?

Middle school is a time of transition, and students face many challenges during the middle school years. School Counselors help students and their families in many ways, and we are here to help our students be prepared for high school and beyond. We provide services to students and families through individual counseling, classroom lessons, and group counseling as needed. The three areas we focus on at PCMS are academic assistance, social skills, and personal issues.

Academic Assistance

School Counselors can help students with study skills, organization, test-taking skills, and many other academic issues. Middle school is an important time to teach students good academic skills for future success. We can help with that.

Social Skills

School Counselors can help students navigate many social issues that middle school students face. Middle School can be a challenging time. We can help with many of those difficult social issues.

Personal Issues

Students face many personal challenges daily, and School Counselors can help with these challenges. We can help with family issues, as well as individual personal problems that a student may encounter. We are licensed School Counselors who are trained in counseling techniques. There are times when further help is needed and we communicate with the families and community services to provide support as needed.
