My name is Laura Smith and I am the Media Coordinator here at Polk County Middle School!  I grew up in the small town of Blacksburg, South Carolina.  I come from a family of five.  Something interesting about my family is that we all have names that start with the letter L.  Before starting my career in libraries, I was a sixth grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for five years.  I was fortunate enough to win a full scholarship to the Library Science program at the University of South Carolina.  I have worked in college, public and school libraries.  My hobbies include shopping, reading books, working out, traveling to the different National Parks, and hanging out with my husband, dog, and family.

I am married to my husband Mark who is a Polk County native.  A fun fact about my husband is that he was one of the first graduates when Polk County High School officially opened.  We have a four-legged daughter named Onyx.  She is a black Labrador Retriever that keeps up on our toes.  Her favorite things include taking a ride in the back of our truck, hiking different trails, and begging for treats!

I believe I have the greatest job on earth.  Nothing makes me happier that spreading the love of books to students that enter through the library doors!
