My name is Kristen Miller and I am the instructional coach at Cherokee Elementary School. This is my 16th year in education, all of which have been here at Cherokee. I have been married to my husband, Chris, for 15 years now. We have a precious daughter who is a middle school student. Our family also includes 2 "furbabies". we love all things Disney, and we try to pack in all of the family adventures that we can.
Teaching is truly a passion of mine. I believe education should be something that excites and sparks interest in our kiddos. It is my opinion that educators should facilitate and allow children to discover their own answers, all the while being guided with strategies that help them grow into young adults who crave to know more. I also believe in a classroom where students learn by helping each other, teaching each other, and putting their hands on various activities. Since every student’s personality, background, culture, and preferences differ so much, I know that I must have various teaching styles throughout any given school day.
Although everyone knows that students are at school to learn, I truly believe that feeling loved and supported is just as important in a child’s development. I try to make my room a home where each child feels respected, cared for, and challenged. My hope is that each child feels exactly that way when they enter and exit my classroom each day.
