I attended Benedict Kindergarten, Westside Elementary School, Cedar Hill Middle School, and Cedartown High School (Double Seal Diploma, 1994). I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education (Magna Cum Laude, UWGA, 1999) and Master of Educaiton in Library Media Science (Summa Cum Laude, JSU, 2010). My teaching career began at Haralson County Middle School in Tallapoosa, Georgia in 1999, where I taught 6th Grade for five years. In 2004, I transferred to Cedartown Middle School, where I taught two years 7th Grade and four years 6th Grade English Language Arts. In 2010, I moved to Youngs Grove Elementary, where I taught English Language Arts to 5th Grade students. In 2015, I happily transferred back to Cedartown Middle School to be the Media & Technology Specialist. I am currently a CMS Leadership Team Member, CMS School Council Member, CMS National Junior Honor Society Sponsor, and CMS Game Club Sponsor.
I am married to my middle school sweetheart, Jason Cox. We currently live in Cedartown with our fantastic feline children: BeaBea, Bobby, Captain, Honey, and Simon. My wonderful parents are Greg and Brenda Gray. I have one younger brother, named Davy, who is married to Jolee; they have two amazing children, Ramplee (25) and Bex (18). I plan to continue working in education until retirement, and then travel the United States with my husband and cats!
My philosophy of teaching is that all students will become confident, respectful, compassionate, successful, life-long learners when educated, challenged, and enlightened in a safe, nurturing, supportive, positive, interactive environment. I feel that it is my professional responsibility, as well as my personal life goal, to facilitate and foster this environment in my classroom, media center, school, and community.
I became a teacher because I want to be a reliable, consistent, and present adult in the lives of the children/young adults in my community – a supportive, protective, and loving resource for whatever they need, whenever they need it – a genuine, trustworthy, and knowledgeable entity that believes in them, encourages them, and supports them in all ways, always.
