Welcome to ESOL
I’m so excited to be your ESOL teacher! Before teaching ESOL, I worked as a school media specialist for 16 years, sharing my love of books, technology, and storytelling with students. Now, I get to combine that experience with my passion for language learning to help students grow in speaking, reading, and writing English.
In our class, we’ll learn English through games, stories, projects, and plenty of conversation. I love discovering my students’ cultures and languages, and I believe everyone’s voice is important. My goal is to help each student feel confident, capable, and excited about learning.
I’m married to my husband, Wesley, and we have two wonderful sons, two fabulous daughters-in-law, and four amazing grandchildren. Our family also includes two dogs—Ranger, a playful Jack Russell with wiry white fur, and Chaco, our energetic 1½-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and dogs, as well as reading, trying new recipes, kayaking, hiking, gardening, and swimming. I can’t wait to learn more about you and make this a fantastic year together!
As an elementary ESOL teacher, I believe every child brings unique strengths, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles that enrich the classroom community. My role is to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to take risks in language learning. I view language not only as a tool for communication but also as a bridge to understanding, belonging, and self-expression.
I believe learning is most effective when it is meaningful and connected to students’ lives. I use a variety of instructional strategies—visual supports, hands-on activities, cooperative learning, and technology integration—to make language comprehensible and relevant. I intentionally build lessons that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing while connecting to academic content, ensuring that language development and content mastery grow hand in hand.
I see myself as both a teacher and a learner. I strive to understand each student’s cultural identity and learning needs, and I adapt my instruction to provide equitable access to education. I also believe in fostering strong partnerships with families, recognizing that they are an essential part of the child’s educational journey.
Above all, my philosophy is grounded in the belief that language learning should be joyful, purposeful, and empowering. I aim to instill confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning so that each student can thrive academically, socially, and personally—both in English and in their own heritage languages.
