Polk Enrichment Program

Cherokee Elementary School

Class overview

Polk School District provides educational programs that recognize and make provisions for the needs of exceptional students.  Students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who demonstrate a combination of a high degree of intelligence, academic performance, creative thinking, and motivation are provided with specialized instruction through Polk Schools' gifted programs.

The Polk Enrichment Program (PEP) at Cherokee Elementary is an exciting and challenging experience as gifted students continue to grow and learn through an accelerated curriculum with multiple enrichment opportunities.  The students will discover many new topics, while also building on past experiences in order to facilitate higher levels of thinking as well as the development of critical and creative thinking skills.

We studied space and learned about famous astronauts and their missions to space.

Students tackle challenging math problems that involve real-life situations in order to continue the development of their math skills.

We visited the Space and Rocket Center and learned so much about the history of space exploration.

Students are excited to dive into learning in PEP!

About me

My name is Laura DeLong, and it is my pleasure to have the opportunity to work with students in the Polk Enrichment Program. I am a wife to a loving husband and a mom of three boys - Easton (4th grade), and twins, Wyatt and Bennett (1st grade).  I am a Kennesaw State University graduate who began my teaching career in 2004.  In 2010, I earned my masters degree in Early Childhood Education at Piedmont College.  I became a certified gifted instructor in 2020.  I thoroughly enjoy the amazing challenge of inspiring and guiding gifted and talented children, who have the potential to change the word with their creative imaginations.  Each day my students will begin a new adventure into the world of possibilities!  I am dedicated to making this a productive year of learning for all my students.

In conclusion of our United States government studies, we celebrated our presidents with a Patriotic President Party!
