A student's and family's privacy is very important. All information shared with a School School Worker will remain confidential unless....
A student shares a plan to harm him or herself, someone is harming them, or they are planning to hurt someone else.
There is suspicion a student may be a victim of abuse or neglect.
*In these situations, all school personnel, including School Social Workers, are required by law to report this information to the appropriate agencies.
*School school worker may share information with teachers/parents on a need to know basis only with student or parent permission.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR VIRTUAL MEETINGS: Respecting student and family confidentiality and keeping students safe is my number one priority always--whether in person at school or virtually in any way. Please consider confidentiality issues and content shared when meeting virtually; while we are all doing our very best to turn our home environments into school, work, and office spaces, remember that this is slightly different than meeting 1:1 in a private office space at school, with respect to what can be controlled in the environment (i.e. others that may be present in your home who may overhear our conversation or whom we may hear or see during our conversations--just be mindful that I cannot control that from my end like I could at school). Friendly reminder to all: informed consent applies to what is shared or seen/heard during virtual meetings. Please have students adhere to appropriate school attire and pay attention to what shows up on screen (school appropriate backgrounds, images, items at home) in any virtual video meetings. Thank you!
