About Mrs. McCann

*Hello. I am Mrs. Kelly McCann. I live in Toms River with my husband James. We have 3 grown children named Matthew, Gabriel and Victoria and two grandchildren named Joey and Francesca.

*I studied music at Southeastern University in Florida, graduating from New Jersey City University and then going on to earn a Masters Degree from Freedom Bible College and Seminary.

*My husband and I have our own church that we co-pastor in Brick, NJ. called True Colors Apostolic Center. I currently lead a worship band called Glory Surge in our church. We also do community events and special services for and with regional churches.

*I began my love of music when I was very young. My mother says that when I was 3 and 4 years old, that I would sing every commercial off of the TV as I heard them. She said that I would hear a song on the TV and then sing it all day long. That showed her that I loved to sing.

*In elementary school, I joined the chorus and also sang in the church choir which gave me many opportunities for solos.

*Then as I went onto high school, I taught myself to play guitar and began to learn how to read notes and would sing for High School Choir and talent shows and also began to write many original songs and perform them for various events.

*When I graduated high school, I left for Florida to college to start my Music Education major. In college, I sang in many various bands and choirs

including the New York District Choir, Concert Choir, and two bands that performed on an off campus.

*One of my most exciting places that I was invited to sing was in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. I sang "Ave Maria." It was so exciting.

*Then, as I graduated, I began to sing with many different bands for many weddings, anniversaries, and many happy occasions and began my teaching music as well as directing choirs in Elementary School, Middle School and High School levels in various places, before I began my teaching career at Nellie Bennett.

* I love all types of music for different reasons. My favorite type of music is faith based worship music. I have written over 100 songs of this style and I have released 3 CD's of my own with the titles, "Yet Will I Praise", "Highest Praise" , and my most recent one called "Prophetic Liquid" which includes some originals along with some covers.

*Out of everything that I've done with music, one of my greatest joys is teaching the students music at Nellie Bennett. I love our Nellie family. I have been teaching here for soon to be 20 years and I couldn't imagine teaching anywhere else. All of you students are so talented and bright and I celebrate being a witness to your amazing lives. I appreciate all of the parents support over the years as I directed choir and have seen your children grow up in the District to become wonderful representatives of this fabulous Borough called Point Pleasant. I am so blessed to teach here and be with you all. This is a special place and I love our amazing administration Mr. Karaba and Mr. Hulse and all of the incredibly wonderful teachers that I get to co-labor with everyday.

*So that is About Me. I hope you learned some new things about me and I hope that you will go on in your life, as I have, to always include music in your life in some capacity. Many of you will go on to direct bands and choruses, and compose your own music and also teach music. Whether you go on to a music career or choose something else, please always have music in your life because it will always bring you joy.

*Oh, and I guess you can guess my favorite hobby--yes, its singing and writing music with my friends. I also enjoy walks on the beach, water rides, and playing basketball. My favorite teams are New York Yankees for baseball and the New York Knicks for basketball. I don't watch football too much except for the Super Bowl. I like Super Bowl cause of all the great Super Bowl Parties and snacks. LOL
