As I reflect on another successful year for our research program, I continue to be inspired by our students’ passion for inquiry and humbled by their remarkable academic accomplishments. Our program has grown into one of the largest and most successful open-enrollment research programs in the country. This year, 210 research students completed more than 150 STEM-based research projects.
From the very first day, the dedication and enthusiasm of both our students and research teachers were evident. Whether in our research classrooms or our in-house laboratory, students collaborated with peers, worked closely with teachers, and exchanged innovative scientific ideas. Through these experiences, many outstanding research projects were developed.
The success of our program extends well beyond the walls of POBJFK High School. This year, every research student once again had the opportunity to share their discoveries with members of the scientific community at local, national, and international science and engineering fairs. From a competitive standpoint, more than 60 students across all four grade levels earned research awards. Additionally, we submitted 55 AP Research papers to the College Board. These accomplishments reflect the strength of our program and the commitment of everyone involved. I am confident that we have established a strong foundation for the 2026–27 school year, and I look forward to the exciting projects our students will pursue in the years ahead.
Before we turn our attention to the future, it is important to celebrate the achievements of this school year. The Research Symposium presented here represents the culmination of a year of dedication, perseverance, and scientific exploration. I invite you to browse the students’ final presentations, which are organized by grade level. I know our students are excited to share their work with the entire POB community.
I would like to personally thank our entire research team, including our teachers, guidance counselors, building administrators, central administration, and Board of Education. Your support, leadership, and commitment provide the foundation that allows this program to thrive.
A special thank you goes to our research teachers. You challenge students to step beyond their comfort zones, encourage them to pursue their passions, and guide them in transforming ideas into meaningful investigations. Your dedication has a profound impact on their growth as scholars and researchers.
I would also like to thank the parents of our research students. Your support, flexibility, and partnership are invaluable. We are grateful for the many hours you devote to helping your children pursue their research goals.
Most importantly, I would like to thank our research students. As you view these presentations, I hope you take time to reflect on all that you have accomplished this year. As I often remind you, good research rarely follows a straight path; instead, it unfolds through an iterative process of discovery, revision, and growth. Throughout this journey, you have demonstrated resilience, creativity, and determination. Time and again, you have successfully navigated challenges and emerged stronger because of them. For that, I thank you.
To our underclassmen, remember that the research process never truly stops, even if it slows down during the summer months. I encourage you to take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the season. Go to the beach, take a bike ride with friends, or read a book unrelated to research on a cool summer evening. When you are ready to return to your projects, know that I will be available throughout the summer to support you on your research journey.
Finally, I would like to offer my best wishes to our graduating seniors. Over the past four years, you have made us all incredibly proud. Your research teachers and I will continue to celebrate your accomplishments as you move on to the next chapter of your lives. It has been an honor to be part of your journey. Remember, you have been well prepared. Now go forward and represent POB proudly on the world stage.
Sincerely,
