why are we here?

"Bakit ka ba galit na galit sa martial law eh hindi ka naman nabuhay noong panahon na 'yon?"

We have probably encountered this line at least once before. Sometimes, we see them as hateful comments on the internet. Sometimes we hear these lines over seemingly peaceful mealtimes that end up into heated arguments with our loved ones. Quite frustrating, isn't it?

But not being able to witness a specific event doesn't automatically render our opinions invalid. Facts and information are here for a reason. The challenge now is how to discern which are true, and how to make them accessible and easy to understand for public consumption.

Hence, Project Mulat: Martial Law in the Philippines is an online compendium of primary and secondary sources about Martial Law during the fascist Marcos years. It aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge about the Marcos dictatorship. Further, it hopes that through this people will know their history, remember it, and vow to not repeat it.
