Education today stands at a pivotal crossroads. Around the globe, schools and universities are being reshaped by disruptive forces—from the transformative potential of artificial intelligence to the pressing need for curricular relevance, equity, and resilience in the face of global crises.
The International Conference on Education Futures (ICEF 2025), convened by the Philippine Normal University, the National Center for Teacher Education, in partnership with the Consortium of Asia-Pacific Education Universities (CAPEU), offers an inclusive and future-focused platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to examine what it means to educate in a world marked by complexity, change, and challenge.
With the theme “Futures Unfolding: Education at the Crossroads of Innovation, Disruption, and Artificial Intelligence,” the conference will foster transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral dialogue on reimagining education systems that can rise to 21st-century demands—systems that are responsive, inclusive, ethical, and globally attuned.
In the Philippines, these global disruptions intersect with urgent local challenges. The country continues to face low performance in international large-scale assessments like PISA, TIMSS, and SEA-PLM, pointing to foundational issues in both basic and teacher education. As a response, the Philippine government and education stakeholders are undertaking major reform initiatives in the senior high school and the teacher education curriculum.
In this context, ICEF 2025 is both timely and necessary. It provides a space for:
Examining how AI and digital technologies are transforming teaching and learning,
Critically reflecting on policy responses to disruptions, and
Sharing practice-based innovations and research that can inform the ongoing curricular and structural shifts in Philippine and regional education systems.
ICEF 2025 will engage the following audience:
Higher education faculty, graduate students, and researchers particularly in teacher education institutions
Elementary and secondary teachers committed to professional development
Basic education leaders specifically principals, superintendents, curriculum developers interested in AI-powered tools for teachers.
Policymakers and government officials involved in shaping education technology policies and funding initiatives.
Technology developers and EdTech companies responsible for creating AI-powered solutions for the education sector.
International organizations working on education and technology development.
