The College of Alternative and Lifelong Learning (CALL) is both a degree-granting and training unit that manages PNU’s online undergraduate, graduate degree programs and continuing education and leadership programs. It is the University’s provider of lifelong learning with research-based programs offering varied pathways to teacher education. Its main responsibility is to develop and manage PNU’s “virtual campus” and traditional face-to-face (F2F) customized programs for different publics. It is PNU’s focal unit in managing and coordinating the University’s training, review, certificate in teaching, in-service, and all non-degree programs. It further leads the University in providing a presence in areas where PNU’s brand of education is needed. It coordinates closely with the other colleges and institutes in developing the University’s online and customized programs.
Below is the college framework illustrating the functions, including the roles and responsibilities of the college.
The college offers two educational pathways - formal and non-formal which are relevant, innovative, inclusive, impactful, and sustainable. These pathways are designed to cater to a wide range of learners—teachers, educational leaders, and allied professionals—ensuring that education remains accessible and adaptable to varying needs.
The formal pathways include regular programs, alternative learning programs, and open distance and e-learning programs, all aimed at delivering structured and flexible learning experiences. Complementing these are the non-formal pathways, which focus on lifelong learning programs that support personal and professional development beyond the traditional classroom.
At the core of this framework is the goal of nurturing future-ready lifelong learners who embody key 21st-century competencies. These include being digitally literate and data-driven decision makers, design thinkers and innovators, deeply-rooted global citizens, dynamic lifelong learners and leaders, and discerning, compassionate individuals.
Through this integrated and forward-looking approach, CALL empowers learners to thrive in a rapidly changing world while contributing meaningfully to their communities and professions.
