Department of Economics

ABOUT

The Department of Economics was established in the year 1962 with a three year B.A./ B.Sc General Course. It was affiliated to the University of Calcutta till 2008.Thereafter, it was brought under the affiliation of West Bengal State University, established through Act XXVIII of Legislative Assembly by the Government of West Bengal on February 8, 1952

The department has one theory class room fitted with LCD projector for ICT -enabled teaching -learning, two laptops that can be used for academic purpose by the students and teachers of the department, one virtual class room on a shared basis and one staff room for the departmental teachers.

The department has departmental library from where students can borrow books.

VISION & MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The vision of the Department of Economics is to be one of the most acclaimed departments in the vicinity wherein our students become policy-literate and can develop  profound analytical skills to interpret and judge the various economic issues arising in the world and domestic arenas; thereby developing into an informed citizen of the world.

The mission of the Department of Economics, P.N. Das College is to prepare the students with a better understanding of the world,  national and local economic issues that will arise in the coming days; to equip them with mathematical and statistical tools to interpret economic phenomena; to provide them with hands-on training experience to make presentations on different economic matters of their interest; to encourage the use of ICT- enabled classes and experiential learning through field studies, sample surveys and industrial visits and to provide friendly, supportive environment for all students.
