Year 11 Transition Offer 2021

This website details our transition offer for all students in the current Year 11. Whilst this year has brought it’s ups and downs, and we know many of you are disappointed not to be sitting formal, external examinations, we are really excited about our transition offer and hope that it offers all of our students the chance to engage in activities relevant to their planned next steps.

As you will be aware, the government has decided that the last school day for Year 11 students this year will be the final Friday in June (25th June). Until then, the Department for Education have set our clear guidelines for how schools and Further Education colleges can support young people in their final year of compulsory schooling. Our offer has three key strands:

1. In-school transition, will focus on A Level and BTEC Taster lessons and enrichment sport, with sessions running each day

2. In school careers support, with sessions running every Friday covering employability skills, interviews, CV writing as well as drop in sessions with Miss Robinson, our Careers Coordinator

3. Remote learning opportunities, communicated using the year group Google Classroom. These will include transition booklets for all A Level and BTEC subjects and remote lessons linked to English, Maths and PHCE, that students can access if they would like to

A Level and BTEC Taster Sessions

These taster sessions will run each day for three weeks (time table below) They are optional for students, but are strongly recommended if you are planning to access one of these courses at the AHS Sixth Form. The subject sessions will run at the same time each week, but each session will be ‘stand-a-lone’ so students can attend all three weeks if they wish. The aim of these sessions is to give students realistic taste of what the subject is like at Post-16, the sessions will not start the A Level or BTEC officially, but will instead cover enrichment opportunities, an introduction to some of the key themes and ideas and a chance to engage with the subject area outside of the consists of exam specifications. Students attending the sessions will be part of our Sixth Form on that day and will not have to wear uniform.

We really hope that these sessions will offer an enjoyable insight into the demands of Post-16 study and alight the enthusiasm of our students, ready for September 2021!

How will the sessions work?

The day will start with an optional ‘cuppa and chat’ with our Sixth Form leaders—this will take place from 9:30am in the area outside the Sixth Form. The sessions will then begin at 10:00am and will last until 12:00pm, at this point, students will end their session and be free to leave the school site.

All subject sessions will require sign-up in advance and will be capped at 30 students per session—details of the timetable, how to sign up and what will be covered in each session can be found on the session links above.
