Principal's Message

Lincoln Junior High's student council raised over $1,800 this week for the Stegelmann family.  Student's participated in a penny war between math classes.  The winning math class earned a field trip to the Bardwell Aquatic Center.  The proceeds are part of the effort to raise money to help PHS high school teacher, Hailey Stegelmann, and her husband, Nathan, who was recently diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.  This Sunday many of the Lincoln teachers and staff will participate in the Steps for Steggs event to help raise funds to assist the family during his battle.  It is not too late to sign up.  The event is Sunday May 5th starting at 12:00 noon.  Come out to the Rockpile and support this great effort.

Today at Lincoln our 7th grade students participated in a Junior Achievement presentation from local community and business leaders.  The event was part of our Financial Literacy program for all 7th graders.

Next Friday night is our 8th grade Dance.  We invite all 8th graders to come and enjoy the fun and their last dance aat Lincoln.  The dance is for only 8th grade Lincoln students and is no cost.  The dance starts at 7:00 and ends at 8:30.

This upcoming Tuesday be sure to have dinner at KFC, it is Lincoln Junior High Night and thanks for supporting our school and Lincoln students.

Have a great weekend.

Integrated Math 1 replaces Algebra 1

Starting next school year Lincoln Junior High students that are taking what was called Algebra 1 will be taking a new class called Integrated Math 1.  This class is for high school credit and has been built by the PHS staff to help students prepare for the SAT which is the high school graduation assessment.  The course description is as follows:

Integrated Mathematics I

Integrated Mathematics I formalizes and extends the mathematics students learned in the middle grades. The critical areas deepen and extend understanding of linear relationships, in part by contrasting them with exponential phenomena, and in part by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend. Integrated Mathematics I uses properties and theorems involving congruent figures to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from prior grades. The final unit in the course ties together the algebraic and geometric ideas studied. The eight Process Standards for Mathematics apply throughout the course. Together with the content standards, the Process Standards prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.

● 2 semester course, 1 credit per semester

● Fulfills a Mathematics course requirement for all diplomas

● Fulfills the Algebra I/Integrated Mathematics I requirement for all diplomas

Indiana Learns

A statewide grant program providing qualifying parents and families with $1,000 to spend on high-dosage tutoring and approved out-of-school academic programs, specifically focused on literacy and math. We know from our 2023 ILEARN proficiency results, and the ongoing academic impact/recovery analysis, that our middle school students in particular need strategic learning support and interventions. This allows parents and families, who may not otherwise be able to pay for high-dosage tutoring, to access these opportunities for their students and provide them the additional support they need.

In addition to the expanded student eligibility, the following program updates are also now in effect:

Interested families can visit IndianaLearns.org to check if their student is eligible. Families with questions can reach out to the Indiana Learns team by emailing info@indianalearns.org or by calling (317) 203-9236.

Red and White Day Schedule

Red/White Days LJH Schedule.xlsx

Phones “Away for the Day”

This year at Lincoln student phones will be away for the day.  This means phones are not allowed out and visible throughout the school day from 7:55-3:00. Students are expected to leave their phones in their lockers throughout the day.  Students in violation of this practice will be asked to leave their phone in the office and parents will be requested to pick up the phone. This help our students engage in the learning in all classrooms without distraction. We appreciate your support with our efforts to engage our students in learning throughout the day.  Students that need to contact their parents throughout the day should do so from the main office.

Student Drop Off

Students may be dropped off beginning at 7:30 each morning.  In the interest of student safety, all drivers should use the drop off lane when dropping off students.  The drop off lane is accessed from Liberty Street near the Lincoln Educational Center.  Please do not drop students off on Gibson street.  The circle drive (door 1) will be closed this year to parents during drop off and pick up times.  We appreciate parents following these important safety drop off procedures.  Although the drop off line takes a bit of time it is rather efficient and safe for students.
