"Fishing as cultural capital indicates ways of translating certain know-how of fishing into additional capitals of tourism services, which simultaneously could contribute to the maintenance of coastal landscapes as well." - MDPI
1. CULTURAL LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
The proposed idea suggests that by managing coastal commons as cultural landscapes, the uniqueness and values of these commons are made visible. Together with its framework principles, a number of possibilities of livelihood and resource sustenance can be achieved.
APPLICATIONS OF CULTURAL LANDSCAPE FRAMEWORK
Owing to its significant uniqueness, ecosystem and social values, as well as vulnerability, the outcome of the study insists that adopting a cultural landscape management framework will be an ideal commons management mechanism integrating traditional methods with new opportunities and services.
2. LIVELIHOOD DIVERSIFICATION
Food can serve as cultural capital in its own right: How the fish has been traditionally processed and the dishes made, for example. Food can be seen as a mediator in culture, bringing together the self-organisation practices among coastal fishers creating foodways and safeguarding traditional landscapes - MDPI, Sustainability, Centre for Landscape and Culture

3. SPATIAL IMPROVEMENTS
Several Empty pockets and abandoned sites like these are found within the residential areas as well, however this one along the beach has potential to become a floodable landscape
Residual Areas could become effective social spaces for informal recreation for women and children
Recreational Spaces for Women and Children
Lack of adequate safe, accessible spaces for children of different ages and potential to shaded recreation spaces for women were suggested.

4. SANITATION AND WASTE
The community hall and its extended surrounding is where net mending happens in the afternoon and people gather for a game of cards after the days work, or some rest in the shaded area. The dumping of debris and garbage over flow in front of and behind the building is unsanitary and dangerous for children who are limited in movement and free play.
Residents also suggested the Following:
Sewage lines to be constructed and linked to the drainage network in nearby Thiruvalluvar Nagar.
Until such a link is established, widening of the existing sewage canals and proper cleaning once a week to maintain hygiene and safety
All houses must have access to clean water from the Nemmeli desalination plant.
Water Logging and garbage overflow around trash collection points make the residual spaces on the beach commons unusable and prone to mosquitoes. The residents mentioned that the waste collection happens here everyday however the clean up around the garbage spots does not happen thoroughly. Moreover Debris collection is not included as part of solid waste management.
ECOLOGICAL DISTRUBANCES DUE TO DRAINAGE CANALS - EXCERPT FROM CITIZEN MATTERS, Jan 2022
"As the sewage water from the gutter flows into the beach, the sand has started to erode causing a small pit like
structure. When there is high tide, the waves come deeper into the shores. So, from one side, you have the sea
coming into the land, and from the other side, there is the water (sewage water from the open gutters) going into
the beach, accelerating coastal erosion. So when there are storms or heavy tides, there are high
chances of a man-made disaster resulting in habitat destruction in the hamlet,” - TD Babu, Marine Ecologist
