AMP started as a non-profit organization when a PLU Business student named Nic won a contest to begin funding it. AMP began as a summer music camp for elementary students in 2013, and grew to provide several different music opportunities-- from Christmas caroling, to experiencing instruments from different cultures, to just learning music after school!
AMP is coming back after a hiatus due to the pandemic with new PLU students who are dedicated to helping the young musicians in our community! AMP partnered with the Parkland Literacy Center, which has led to many new opportunities for our students. AMP's new directors are working to bring small monthly lessons to elementary students in the community, with big plans to begin working with secondary schools in Fall 2026. Our new team is dedicated to providing Free Arts Education to youth in the area while providing our PLU Students with successful teaching opportunities.
AMP's current directors are working so that future PLU students can continue AMP Programming! We hope to reinstate the AMP summer camps in the coming years to be an annual event, growing to serve more age groups. This will depend on community involvement, funding, and overall program success-- but we will work tirelessly to ensure that local children can have free music and arts opportunities!
AMP is also working to find ways to bring more of the arts into our programming, Theater, dance/movement, visual arts, etc.
