About Plete

Plete is a collaborative task management application that is completely free to use. It is available on the web, iOS, and Android.

At its simplest, Plete is todo list. Plete allows you to create tasks that will be completed by yourself. But Plete also allows you to assign tasks to anyone else (and anyone else can assign tasks to you). Once a task is assigned, it may be reassigned and tracked to completion.

Tasks in Plete offer messaging among the collaborators on the task, allowing clarifying questions, answers, notes, and updates on partial progress to be kept in the context of the task, immediately available to any new assignee.

To use Plete, you must have accepted the Plete Terms and Conditions and Plete Privacy Policy, available at their respective links.

Plete is in its early days, the product of a single developer. More features are coming soon.

To create a task, follow these steps:

The task will now be listed under under the To Do task list of whoever it was assigned to. If assigned to someone other than yourself, it will be also be listed under your Assigned task list.

List Tasks

Visit the task list screen to list tasks. Tasks that you have access to are visible among four tabs across the bottom of the screen:

Within each tab, tasks are ordered from most recent to least recent task activity. Tasks with activity more recent than you last read are highlighted in bold.

Each task also indicates who created the task and who the current assignee is, expressed as creator -> assignee. The assignee may also have an envelope icon after it, which describes the assignee's awareness of the assignment. To understand that indicator, see the Assignee Awareness Indicator section below.

If you have scheduled a personal reminder, the task will also display a notification bell icon. To learn more about personal reminders, see the Setup Personal Reminders section below.

To see more recent task updates, pull down to refresh on mobile web or refresh the page on desktop. If you are opted in to notifications, the list will update automatically.

To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

Change Task Status

Any user with access to a task may change its status. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

A task may have one of two statuses:

Task status does not prevent any task activity. In particular, messaging, editing, reassignment, and changing status are still allowed in the Done state.

To change the status of a task, follow these steps:

See the List Tasks section above to understand where the task is displayed when its status changes.

View Task Details

Any user with access to a task may view it. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

Reassign a Task

Any user with access to a task may reassign it. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

To reassign a task, follow these steps:

When reassigned, any new assignee gains access to the task. The previous assignee does not lose access to the task. See the List Tasks section above to understand where the task is displayed for the new assignee as well as for any other user with access to the task.

Setup Task Recurrence

A task can be set up to recur according to rules that you specify. Any user with access to a task may setup, change, or remove a task recurrence configuration. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

Recurrence Setup

To setup a task recurrence, follow these steps:

Recurrence Rule Descriptions

Setup Personal Reminders

Personal reminders may be scheduled on tasks to send a reminder notification to the user that set it up. At the scheduled time, the reminder will add a reminder message to the task but only send a notification to the user that scheduled the reminder.

Any signed in user with access to a task may schedule or remove a personal reminder for that task. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

Each user with access to a task may set up a reminder specific to that user. A user may not view or edit other users' reminders.

To add a personal reminder for a task, follow these steps:

To remove a personal reminder from a task, follow these steps:

Add or Remove Task Watchers

Any user with access to a task may add or remove a task Watcher. To understand which users have access to which tasks, see the Task Permissions section below.

Assignee Awareness Indicator

The Assignee Awareness Indicator is an envelope that may appear next to the task assignee in either the task list screen or task screen indicating the following:

Task Permissions

Users that have access to a task have one of three roles:

Tasks are collectively managed by all users that have access to the task. Any user with access to the task may take any action on it.

Plete users gain access to a task in one of three ways:

When a task is reassigned, the previous Assignee assumes the Watcher role and retains access to the task.

Only a Watcher may be removed from a task. To remove an Assignee, first assign the task to someone else. The previous Assignee will then be a Watcher and may be removed.

A task exists as long as any user has access to the task.

Task messaging history provides an audit trail of all task events, including access changes.
