SPECTATOR CODE OF CONDUCT
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT BEHAVIOR
All student responsibilities described in this section apply to expected behavior at school social events and all consequences for violations of these responsibilities are in force as well.
Smoking is not permitted in the auditorium, gymnasium, parking lots, or anywhere on campus. Violators will be asked to leave.
Evidence of drugs or alcohol will be immediately reported to the faculty advisor and/or security personnel who will call the student's parents and file a report with the school administration and, if necessary, the police.
Students who are obviously intoxicated or under the influence of a drug will not be allowed to enter the social event. If already admitted, the chaperone will notify the parents who will then be required to come and pick up their student and escort him/her home.
Students exhibiting disruptive behavior will be asked to leave school property. In the case of any violation, the chaperone may notify not only the faculty advisor, but also the police, if necessary.
Remember, all school rules of conduct apply to athletic contests on or off campus. Unacceptable behavior will result in removal from the event.
While the student is on suspension, he or she may not be on campus or participate in any school-sponsored activity as a member of the activity or as a fan (observer).
The Spectator: Schools have a tremendous challenge to instill pride in sportsmanlike behavior among spectators. The greatest peril to interscholastic athletics is the overzealous fan. Spectators will be put on notice that school officials will not tolerate improper behavior from any fans; students, recent graduates, parents or residents from the community. Spectators are encouraged to help promote good sportsmanship.
Spectator Responsibilities:
Learn the rules of the game so that you may understand and appreciate why certain situations take place.
Remember that you are at a high school or middle school contest to support and yell for your team and to enjoy the skill and competition; not to intimidate or ridicule the other team, or its fans.
Respect the school property and authority of school officials.
Do not heckle, jeer or distract members of the opposing team.
Do not applaud errors by opponents or penalties inflicted upon them.
Avoid profane language, disrespectful gestures or obnoxious behavior.
Censure fellow spectators whose behavior is unbecoming.
Respect the judgment and strategy of the coach.
Show respect for an injured player when he/she is removed from a contest.
SPECTATOR CODE OF CONDUCT
The Athletic Department recognizes the role of Interscholastic Athletics in defining ethical behavior and developing personal character in our students. Therefore, we ask that all spectators:
Demonstrate a high degree of sportsmanship.
Show team support by making only positive comments.
Show respect for the judgment of coaches, officials and referees.
Acknowledge fields, courts and equipment as the player's domain during contests.
Monitor the safety of children in bleachers and stands.
Respect the law: all public schools are smoke-free, substance free environments.
Athletic contests on/off campus are an extension of the classroom. Therefore, all school rules are in effect!
Exceptions to this behavior will lead to ejection from the event.
Our school district supports relationships that are based on trust, decency and fairness. Pleasantville athletic contests are held in the spirit of healthy competition and good sportsmanship.
We expect cooperation and respect by all athletes and spectators at home and away contests.
Remember that you are a representative of Pleasantville!
