Basic Procedures
You will be reading on a daily basis. Please have the text we are working on each day in class.
Daily participation is required through classroom discussions and collaborative work groups.
Every class member will give presentations or lead discussions on a regular basis throughout the year, both individually and as a member of a group.
You will be writing on a daily basis. This writing will range from journals & reflective pieces, to analytical essays & research-based speeches.
All essays will be typed and double-spaced in twelve-point Times New Roman. MLA FORMAT ONLY
Recommended Class Supplies
I suggest you have the following materials every day:
Your laptop set to the class homepage which displays agenda and homework

Class Text and notebook
Your Independent Reading Book

You will be graded using a standards-based, total points grading system. The following categories will determine your progress & final grade at the end of each semester:
Classwork/ Projects
Participation
Vocabulary Acquisition
Reading
Writing
Please expect the following types of assignments in class:

Quarterly independent reading assignments

A.......90-100%
B.......80-89.9%
C.......70-79.9%
D.......60-69.9%
Work Standards (Follow to receive full credit):
Use full page, loose-leaf paper or printed computer paper (not torn out spiral notebook paper or half sheets)
Write in blue or black ink
Use proper MLA heading on all written work - Your Name, My Name, Class and Period #, Due Date
Always submit your best effort
Develop & maintain a sense of personal-integrity; ALWAYS complete your own work
Save all of your graded work unless instructed otherwise. Any questions regarding your score will be resolved by referring to the grade on the returned work.
Policies
Make-Up and Late Work:
There is no substitute for regular, timely attendance in class. The district policy for unexcused absences will be enforced.
Make-up assignments are available for excused absences. You have 1 day for each excused absence. You must approach me the day you return from an absence, no later.
No late work accepted (please refer to Eng Dept. Policies in homepage).
All essays are due on given due dates. (Research projects, process essays, & long term projects are due even if you are excused on the day the assignment is due.)
If you need to discuss an absence or make-up work with me, please see me during Access Period or email me for a Zoom link. I am available Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 9:35-10:34, and on Thursday from 8:30-9:55 if you inform me in advance.
