WELCOME TO OUR SECOND GRADE CLASS
Dear Fabulous Room 6B Families,
Welcome to a whole new year of school! I would like to take this moment to introduce myself to you and let you know how thrilled I am to be working with your child this year. I have been teaching for almost 30 years and just transferred to Mohr’s second-grade team last year from Hearst Elementary. Although my most recent assignment at Hearst was fifth-grade, I have spent decades teaching second and third grade. I grew up in San Diego but moved to Northern California to attend UCDavis. Once I was here, I decided to stay and earn my teaching credential and master's degree in Curriculum from CSUEB. Starting in college I have spent every summer traveling. I LOVE to travel, learn about different cultures, and see the sights. I have visited all seven continents, managing to teach on four of them already. My husband Derek and I adopted our son Jack 4 years ago, so that is where all of my extra time, energy, and travel funds are focused now. I feel incredibly honored to be your child’s second-grade teacher, and I am looking forward to a year of growth, experience, exploration, and fun!

All back-to-school supplies have been purchased and will be delivered to classrooms before the start of school, so there is no need to buy additional materials. Please look at your PTA information to learn more about supporting this program by paying back your student’s supply cost. Checks can be made to Mohr PTA. There is a link to the PTA site under “Parent Resources” on my website.

I am confident that this will be an immense year of growth for your second grader, and I am excited to see the progression throughout the year. In second grade, students are entering into a new realm of greater thinking, more challenging academics, new types of collaboration, and becoming independent learners. However, our most important focus is to foster a safe and caring environment where the children can connect and grow socially. This is an incredibly exciting transition for your children, and I am thrilled to be a part of their educational journey. I look forward to partnering with you this year!
Please feel free to contact me by email at any time.
Thank you,
Kerry Mattimore
