I look forward to an exciting and productive year with you!
In Language Arts, we read at least three novels as well as many short stories and excerpts. Students will complete weekly spelling/vocabulary/definitions exercises using our adopted ELA program, StudySync. Grammar instruction will use StudySync and Grammarflip. Students will write several essays in different genres of writing. Other writing opportunities include WOW (Write on Writing) journal writing addressing prompts/situations, and responses/story endings to informational text. Students will complete three projects (Memoir, Poetry, Research) that include written, oral, and visual components. StudySync provides exciting digital and print learning opportunities for students.
In History We will explore Early Man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, the beginning of Christianity, India, China, Greece, and the rise of Rome. We use the acronym of GRAPES (Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, Social Structure) to guide the discoveries of our past. A History portfolio notebook is kept during the year of all notes, activities, quizzes and tests that may continue to be used as a reference in history classes through college.
Let's have a great year full of active learning, effort and inquiry. Please have the necessary school supplies every day and make organization a priority by using the Hart agenda/organizer. Feel free, student and/or parent, to make an appointment with any concerns or questions as our school year progresses.
