Thank you also for all the donations to the Fun Run! The kids had their Glow in the Dark Dance reward today (I think it was for all the new sign-ups on Thursday!) I'll send a video in an email.
Parents are allowed to come and watch the Fun Run- we run from 9:30-10:00.
We have our Halloween parade on Friday. Parents are able to come and watch- please see all the emails sent by the school and PTA for specifics on where to stand and wait for us. I will take a group photo after the parade and share it with everyone.
Friday is our first minimum day. Students have the option to get a school lunch, but it will not be eaten on campus. They will take it with them. The whole school gets out at 12:20- so plan ahead for pick up being busy.

Reminders/Upcoming:
There is no school for students this Friday for a Staff Development Day.
SOCKtober and Fun Run are both happening soon!
Soctober is 10/12-10/23, and the Fun Run is happening on 10/27. Information about both events is being sent home via the PTA emails. We are using a new program to handle the Fun Run event. We are excited to see how much fun it is for the students and will make fundraising even easier for parents and the school.
If your child came home wishing they had a class t-shirt, you can still order through shopfairlands.com.
Reminder: our gates open at 8:05 (9:05 Wednesdays), and students can have their hang-out and chat time with their friends as they walk after dropping their backpacks off. When students arrive at the first bell or later, they do not have time built in to have that talk time. There are a large handful of students craving talk time and are trying to have it during instruction and lessons in class... and that just doesn't work. Please consider an earlier drop-off if you know that is something your child loves about coming to school each day!
If you haven't already, please sign up for a November conference time. Thanks!
Have a great week!

shed, shock, brush, thick, them, broth
Heart Words: says, they, their, were
Math: Module 1 Lessons 19-21, 22-23
There are number bond sprints on the link page that can be printed for practice at home. In first grade we find the missing part, not the total. We have been practicing, but extra practice at home is important! Putting the paper in a plastic sleeve and using a dry erase marker is a good way to not have to print so many copies.
Upcoming/Reminders:
This week we have to say goodbye to Miss Kate as she moves back to college! If your child would like to write her a note or a picture, etc for me to deliver to her, they can bring it to me by Wednesday. I know the students will miss her, but not as much as me! She has been such a huge help in the classroom with supporting students, taking on tasks that I usually have to do after school, and being a fun lunch partner for me. I will be gone Thursday and Friday to drive her up to Oregon.
The Book Fair continues this week after school in the MPR.
On Tuesday, we are having our first meeting with our buddy class, Mrs. Jetter's fourth graders. We try to meet every other week so that students really get to know their buddy (or buddies) and have a fun experience visiting an upper-grade classroom at least once a month.
PTA is still looking for someone to be our Room Parent! This can be a role done mostly via email- I promise I'm easy to work with :) Let me know if you are interested!
Have a great week!
Week #5 9/8-9/11
Word Study: floss rule words and _ck ending: when a short vowel is followed by the /f/, /l/, /s/, or /z/ sound it is spelled with a double consonant. When a short vowel word ends in the /k/ sound, the /k/ sound is spelled with a ck.
puff, doll, kiss, buzz, back, peck, sick, rock, muck
Heart Words: we finished with reviewing kindergarten heart words and will add: your, want
Heart words are words that have unexpected sounds for the letters used to spell the word. We talk about what part of the word is the "heart part" and are keeping an alphabetic list of the words in their word study binder. At home you can pracitce reading, spelling, and using the word correctly in a sentence.
Math: Module 1 Lessons 16-19
Upcoming/Reminders:
This Friday is the Fall Festival. The tickets must be purchased before the event. The PTA has sent information home, and students will receive their tickets from me and bring them home Thursday or Friday.
The book fair starts on the 11th and continues after school in the MPR through the end of next week.
Have a great week!
Week #4 8/31-9/4
Word Study: continued review of short vowels and routines
Math: Module 1 Lessons 10-15 (skip 13). Number bonds: in first grade we don't just look for totals, we figure out the missing parts
Reminders/Upcoming:
The book fair will be happening next week and on Fall Festival! PTA sends details- be sure you are on their email list.
Week #3 8/24-8/28
Word Study: Continued review of short vowel phonics, building word study routines.
Math: Daily subitizing, Module 1 Lessons 6-9
Reminders/Upcoming: I am all done with individual assessments! If your child was absent on their test day, I will do their tests during the day. It was great getting a chance to listen and read to all your children- this is such a great group of kids.
Library books went home on Tuesday. They will be due Monday mornings. I set the return bin outside the classroom for them to drop off first thing. They can always turn them in before Monday- the bin is in the classroom.
We are having a lot of fun doing our Meet and Greet book together. If your child hasn't told you about it- be sure to ask!
Thank you for all your kind words and thoughts after my Monday email. My father has Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease, and while he is in good health, the cognitive decline can make taking care of him especially challenging. We have care in place for him, but needs will arise, and this was just an especially stressful moment. Your support was so appreciated!
Week #2 8/17-8/21
Word Study: we are beginning our review of kinder sounds and heart words- but are still mostly focused on learning routines and expectations in class.
Math: we started our Module 1 today! We will try to make it through Lessons 1-5, but again, mostly building procedure and if we need to push lessons due to time, they will continue next week.
Reminders/Upcoming:
Picture day is Thursday, August 20th. Everyone will take a picture for the composite and yearbook, but you will have the option to purchase online. You should be receiving information from the school and/or picture company with details.
After school assessment times start this week- be sure to check that you know what day to come later for pick up.
Week #1 8/13-8/14
Welcome to Room 6!
You will get an email from me by Wed. 8/12, at the latest, via my gmail group list with a letter attached. If you do not receive this, please check that your contact information in Synergy is correct, or check your spam email and make sure to change the setting to receive district emails (and let me know if you have made changes as I will need to change it in my contacts). This letter asks you to fill out a Family Contact form with just a few questions. Second, please fill out the location of where you plan to have your child picked up. This helps staff guide students to where they must go in the first few weeks (choose 1 spot- this will not be checked daily for changes). Lastly, please choose a day for your child to stay to do some word work with me. I use this time to gauge where students are and help me plan for their needs.
I will share A LOT more information at Back to School Night on Thursday, 8/13 from 5:50-6:35 pm. This is an adults-only session, thank you for making arrangements for your child to not be in attendance.
Looking forward to a great year! See you all soon!
