September 2020
September is Attendance Awareness Month!
To help support our students’ consistent engagement during remote learning, we will begin automated attendance calls for all students beginning Tuesday, September 8. These calls are meant to be helpful reminders to keep you aware of your student’s daily attendance and engagement. Consistent engagement during our remote learning period is critical for the continued growth and progress of all students.
- When your student is marked absent during live (synchronous) instruction, you will receive an automated call within the same day.
- If your student’s absence is planned or due to illness, please contact the school attendance line.
- Please contact your student’s teacher if you believe the absence is an error.
- In the event a student is unable to participate live, the student has the opportunity to participate asynchronously by contacting their teacher the day of the absence.
Every day of learning counts and it is important for our students to be present, engaged and ready to learn - regardless of where learning takes place. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!

Virtual
Abilities Awareness Week
Abilities Awareness Week at Donlon is next week, September 21 - 25! Here's a video overview from Ms. Gates and Ms. Stothers. Click on files at right to access the activities (blue box is grades 3 - 5, yellow box is grades k-2). Look for the special "thank you" video to Donlon from the Wheelchair Foundation for our donations to From the Heart campaign during Abilities Awareness Week last year.
Free and Reduced Meals applications need to be completed each year. Here is a link to a flyer with more information.
Please click above to read information about our district's current situation regarding in-person learning AND for notes about some Donlon staff members!
Please read the following District wide notification to parents and guardians of students in grades 2-5 about the MAP Growth Assessments. These are online assessments that will be taken by students in 2nd grade for math, and in 3rd through 5th grades for math and language arts. Each teacher will communicate with their families the dates/times for the assessments.
There is information in the notice to help you troubleshoot the device your child will use for this assessment. Please take a moment and run this tool (https://check.nwea.org/) so any issues with your child's device can be remedied ahead of time.
This is, of course, the first time we have done this assessment remotely (and the first time for many of our 2nd graders to take this assessment), so we know that there will be challenges, but we will work through these. Our fifth graders are moving quickly, and have already begun this assessment remotely this year!
Please note that this is an assessment to let us know students' next steps in learning, not something for a "grade". We want accurate information about what our students know; so parents should not help answer questions, nor should students study for this, though they can try a practice assessment to see how the screens appear. The test adapts depending upon student answers, so they will get questions that are too difficult for them - they should NOT be able to answer everything correctly! Just encourage them to do their best and not to worry if they get something wrong - that's how it is supposed to work.
Thank you, as always, for supporting your child's learning!
