As part of our Abilities Awareness week, many Donlon students had an opportunity to experience some time using a wheelchair. The Wheelchair Foundation, based nearby in Danville, has donated close to one million wheelchairs to people in need all over the world. Our students viewed a video about this project during an assembly last week, and have been challenged to raise money in support of this worthy cause.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2019 is International WALK and ROLL to SCHOOL DAY (IWR2SD), an annual event held by schools across Alameda County—and the world—that encourages students, families, and the school community to walk, bicycle, or use other non-motorized transportation to get to school.

This is an excellent opportunity to make streets safer and reduce traffic congestion near schools, improve air quality, and celebrate the school’s community spirit!

We know bikes need a lot of maintenance, so the PTA has invited the Safe Routes to Schools BikeMobile to provide free tune ups for parents, students and teachers at our school!
We know bikes need a lot of maintenance, so the PTA has invited the Safe Routes to Schools BikeMobile to provide free tune ups for parents, students and teachers at our school!
If your bike or your child’s bike is making a "mystery sound" or collecting dust because it has a flat tire, bring it to school on Tuesday, October 8th during both lunches. The bikes will be repaired on a first come, first served basis. The BikeMobile can fix flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and even replace broken or worn out parts like chains, seats, and tires. The only thing it can’t do is replace missing wheels or gears (all bikes must be complete with wheels and gears to be repaired). When you pick your bike up after school the mechanics who worked on your bike will explain how to keep it running smoothly.

Donlon's 9th Annual Fun Run will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16th! This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for our PTA. We have set a goal of $50,000 to make much-needed improvements for our Library! Below is important info about this year's event!

This year at Donlon we have the district's band and strings program on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 3:00pm. If your 5th grade student is participating this year, please remind them to bring their instruments with them to school on Wednesday mornings. In the unlikely event that your student forgets to bring it one day, they should still attend the lesson to keep abreast of what is happening. ALSO, ALL BAND/STRINGS STUDENTS HAVE BEEN TOLD TO CHECK THE OFFICE AT 2:00 IF THEY FORGOT THEIR INSTRUMENT TO SEE IF IT WAS DROPPED OFF BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. As we focus on helping our 5th graders to take responsibility for their things prior to moving on to Middle School, we appreciate your support and partnership in helping our students to take responsibility for their instruments.

Please note that the PUSD School Board has updated it's policy for Independent Studies during the current school year. Under the new policy, the maximum number of school days that will be excused is 10 (in previous years it was 20 calendar days). Also, students are only eligible for one independent study contract per school year, and no contracts will be issued the first 20 school days of the year or the last 20 school days of the year.
