How I plan to approach this school year...

  • Building a class community will come first!

  • Meeting students where they are

  • New information in small doses

  • Emphasis on communication and feedback

  • Prioritizing student choice to increase motivation

  • Flexibility will be key

  • Creative and interactive lessons

    1. Emotionally invested students learn more

    2. Results in higher level thinking

What can you do to help your child succeed this year?

  • Encourage communication with teachers and peers!

  • Read with your child!

    • You can read the same book as a family, listen to an audio book and discuss it together, or read your own book in the same room! It is extremely valuable for students to see adults around them read for fun!

  • E-mail me with questions and feedback. I am here to support you as well as your student.

  • I have linked the PUSD parent/guardian guide and the PUSD wellness/ social emotional learning site in the buttons below. There are some EXCELLENT resources!

Essential Standards and My Goals

Reading

  1. Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.

  2. Analyze text to identify where information is explicitly stated and where inferences must be drawn)

Writing

  1. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.)

  2. With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed.

Speaking and Listening

  1. Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly

My Goal

My goal is to help your child build their reading and writing identity. Some may not see themselves as readers or writers yet, but I hope that over the course of this year they begin to find joy in English class. I strive to help them realize the power of immersing themselves into stories about people similar and different than them, and recognize the strength of their voice and opinions through writing and speaking.
