My Teaching Philosophy

A Little About My Teaching Style...

because I know that all you are thinking is, "but how much homework does she give!?"

I can't answer that question explicitly, but I will tell you how I approach teaching and what I expect from my students.

  1. Our classroom community will be based on trust and respect. It is crucial that everyone can come to (virtual) class and feel that they are in a safe space where they can actively participate and are surrounded by people who support them. This point is the most important of them all.

  2. Be a learner not a finisher. School is not about finishing assignments on time and receiving points. It is about growing as a person, a student, and a leader of our future. You are building your knowledge base every single day. I work really hard to design lessons that are relevant and meaningful, so you will not be assigned busy work in this class. Please remember that there is always a purpose to what you are working on.

  3. Be an active participant! Participation will be key as we embark on this remote journey. I urge you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and become a "cook in the kitchen." The more you participate, the more invested you will all be in our lessons. It will make things much more exciting and ultimately you will learn more.

  4. Communication is key. Now more than ever, we must put in a little more effort to communicate our questions, concerns, and feedback. But please do not hesitate to reach out. In fact, I am very grateful for any feedback as this year poses a lot of changes. It is always hard for teachers to attempt to read students' minds in class (we do try), but it is nearly impossible now that we cannot read your facial expressions #MaskLife. If something is not working for you, please tell me! If something is working great, please tell me! And if you have a question that you feel like is silly or annoying, I promise you it isn't. Ultimately, My job is to support you!
