The use of TCIT made a tremendous impact on my behavioral management skills in the classroom. I was able to create a place that allowed students to feel safe and happy. The use of TCIT allowed me to be intentional with questions and direct commands that were given to students. It taught me how to be more purposeful in my instruction and to listen to each student's response by reflecting on what the student said or how the student answered. I was able to switch my focus from consistently noticing off-task or disruptive behaviors to recognizing and praising on-task and desired behaviors with each student. The use of TCIT allowed me to build and strengthen relationships with each student by fulfilling their emotional needs in the classroom. Learning how to implement PBiS through TCIT has allowed me reach a deeper understanding of how to use positive reinforcement and show consistent, predictable strategies while addressing disruptive or off task behaviors. The use of TCIT has allowed me to self-reflect on my teaching instruction and to become more purposeful with each student interaction. I feel that with each individual conversation I have with a student is unique and impactful because I am able to make each child feel heard and important.
The use of TCIT made an enormous impact on student self-regulation. The use of TCIT was able to meet needs and fill each student's emotional bucket. The implementation of TCIT allowed each student to hear and experience the use of positive reinforcement through PRIDE skills in the classroom. The students were able to count on me making foreseeable and consistent actions which created a safe and predictable environment for each child.
The use of TCIT made an exceptional impact on my behavioral management skills. The use of TCIT taught me how to establish, build, and maintain positive relationships with each student in the classroom. The program taught me how to disregard negative words or "talk" that would drive student confidence down. I feel that the overall morale of the classroom has changed drastically. The students seem engaged and happy in the classroom. The use of TCIT allowed me to embed opportunities to strengthen individual relationships with each student into my instruction.
The use of TCIT has made me a better teacher. I am able to self-reflect on aspects of my teaching that are not typically monitored as carefully as they were in the TCIT program. In many districts, the coaching and interventions are to help teachers grow in content areas. TCIT focuses on the growth of behavioral management skills and strategies to help the teacher be successful when delivering content and engaging with students.
Moving forward in my teaching career, I will be utilizing the skills learned through TCIT in all future classrooms. The overall dynamic that the use of TCIT skills has created for me and my students has allowed students to feel confident and comfortable in the classroom, which allows them to take chances and to accept challenges that can come with learning. It allowed the students to express their "grows" and "glows" to an adult, and the students know that their voices have been heard.
