Students at Papillion - La Vista South High School have the opportunity to be a member of SkillsUSA.
We are a local chapter of the national SkillsUSA organization.
We teach leadership and employability skills to help students succeed — both on the job and in life. Our theme is “SkillsUSA: Champions at Work”.
Our goal is to help students develop personal, workplace, and technical skills. Each year our members complete a program of work including chapter socials, fundraising efforts to lower costs, community service projects, and they attend conferences and competitions.
SkillsUSA membership opens the door to winning State and National recognition, scholarships, and prizes. Build workplace, personal, and technical skills. Become a group leader.

When is SkillsUSA? Scroll to the top of this site. That meeting date, time, and location info will be kept as current as possible.
What do you do during SkillsUSA? It will vary from meeting-to-meeting. Sometimes there will be information. Often there will be an activity. We plan out and do a Program of Work each year. At meetings you will be in a committee working on this. You can also get advise on how to prepare for your SkillsUSA Competition.
Where do I find out dates and information for events? Our chapter has an agenda presentation with everything we share. Nebraska SkillsUSA lists the Fall Leadership Conference, Mid-America, and State Leadership Conference details on their event page. Field trip forms will list the specific date, location, leave and approximate return times. Field trip form copies can be found in our Files folder.
What competitions are there? There is a list on the National SkillsUSA site. We also have a competition list document. Since there are over 100 competitions we can't list them all in person so you need to look over the list really well. Not every competition at the National level is offered at the state level but most are. There are also additional state level only competitions. We will guide members in picking competitions usually in October to December. There will be an application process for State that allows us to make sure you are as qualified as possible.
Where else can I find stuff?
Where can I get SkillsUSA merch? The SkillsUSA store.
What if I'm not good at any of the competition subjects? The state competition is in April. You need to pay and register about January. If you get started early enough you can work with our advisors and officers to create a plan on how to get ready.
Do I need to be good at my competition subject? YES!!! It is a state level competition. You are going against the best from across Nebraska. You do not need to be perfect but you need to know what you are doing and be able to compete at a high level. You do not need to attend State to be in SkillsUSA. We have a limited number that we can bring to the State Competition so we typically take the most qualified individuals.
Where do I find out what I do in my competition? SkillsUSA releases Technical Standards. You need to look at this document and be able to do many of the things listed in the document. The state competition is easier and scaled down compared to the National Competition. At the state level you will not need to do everything in the Technical Standards list. You should be able to do most of it if you want to be successful. We try to not sign students up unless they are ready to compete. There is a competition for everyone so we need to work together to find you the right competition.
Is there a cost for membership? Yes. We will cover this in the meeting. There will be a membership drive in the fall. You must be a paid member to attend the state conference/competition. Some information is also in our Welcome Letter.
Is there a cost for the conferences/competition? Yes. These vary every year and will be covered in the meeting. Some information is in our Welcome Letter.
Where do I find copies of trip forms and other documents? On this website under Files.
Can I list it on my NHS application? Yes.
Can I be a club officer? Yes. Just ask about the opportunity in person so we can have a conversation first. Elections happen every year.
Can I be a state or national officer? Yes! State officer applications are online and are due a few months or so before the state conference. National officer applications are also online.
What are some other things I can do to help the club? Visit the middle schools to recruit. Mentor a HAL or other district elementary club. Attend 8th grade activity night (Titans of Tomorrow), the first day for 9th graders activity fair, and other promotional days.
Can you get "kicked out" of SkillsUSA Club? Yes. Any individual not conforming to the PLSHS Student Handbook, Titan Way, exhibiting gracious professionalism or daily meeting requirements will be removed from the SkillsUSA Club. Chapter membership costs are non-refundable.
