Always manage health concerns first. Spanish can wait. School timelines do not apply in a health crisis.

On the main PLHS Spanish page, you will see a list of the chapters we study. When you click on the units of study, you will go to the unit page. Each unit page is formatted the same way.
A. See what students are responsible for learning in the unit. Each unit is divided into two lessons. Some of these objectives will be in the first lesson; some in the second.
B. The embedded vocabulary flashcards use the Quizlet app to present vocabulary. Click on "view this study set" to open in a new window. Under the dropdown menu, "Choose a study mode", you can choose different games to play with the vocabulary. Use the three bars at the top right of the flashcards to choose settings. Click the microphone to hear pronunciation. Click the star to remember which cards were most challenging.
C. There are several resources here.
PDF of textbook pages: allows you to see the textbook pages as a PDF.
PDF of vocabulary list: allows you to access the vocabulary list of tested words.
Interactive sites: allows you to do practice activities.
Tutorial videos: teach key concepts from class.
Google Classroom is designed for students as a "one stop" location to find assignments, complete assignments, and submit them for grading.
There are three main tabs, found at the top or bottom of your screen. The tabs are "stream", "classwork", and "people".
This is the stream. Use the stream to find communication and updates.
The Classwork tab is the most critical.
Classwork is separated by weekly topics. You can see what is happening each day. Use the list of weeks to navigate through the tab.
Note that there are some tabs that are "assignments" which carry a grade and some that are "resources", "materials", or "study guides". These reinforce learning for upcoming quizzes or tests.
Click on any assignment to see it expand into more details. If it has been turned in and graded, you will see a grade in the upper right corner. If you have not turned it in, it will say "missing". Click on the individual PDFs to see worksheets. Click on "view assignment" to actually open the assignment to begin.
When viewing the actual assignment, you can see the directions and the worksheets.
Sometimes the worksheets are PDFs. If a student is able to print, please do. If not, simply write the answers on your own paper.
Sometimes the assignments are Google Docs that can be edited by the student directly.
When the assignment is complete, it must be submitted. If you have completed a Google Doc, you'll have an option to turn it in from Google Docs. If submitting a PDF or photograph of your own paper, use the "add or create" button to select a link or an image upload. Use the "turn in" button to submit the assignment.
If there are no images to upload, submit it as done by clicking on the "mark as done".
The Private Comments tab can be used to send a note to Ms. Call specific to the assignment.
Will my work be late if I'm in quarantine or sick?
Yes...and no. Our "real" gradebook is SIMS. This is the official source for transcripts. I may put a "0" in SIMS but, if I know you are out with a long-term absence, you will be given the time needed to make up work. Consider the "0" a placeholder so that you don't forget the work will need to be completed...at some point. Remember, health first.
What if I don't understand the work?
Be patient with yourself. Health first. It's pretty hard to think clearly when struggling with COVID, the flu, or other illness. Email me with questions. Use all of your resources. We could always try to set up a Zoom live video conference.
What if I can't upload to Google Classroom?
Email me attachments.
What about my quizzes and tests?
Do them when you get back. They'll appear as a "0" until completed; but you will have time to resolve this when you return.
If I complete an assignment in class on a worksheet, do I have to turn it in in Classroom?
No, although you may want to mark it as done so that you don't have it show up as missing in Classroom. You can always include a private note that says "completed in class".
