Every year on February 2nd, a groundhog pops out of its burrow. If the groundhog sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If it does not see its shadow, spring is near.
Have children pretend to be in a burrow. Use a tunnel or make a tunnel out of your couch cushions or blankets. Have the children crawl through the tunnel and as they come out of the other end, shine a flashlight on them. Ask them if they saw their shadow or not. Ask your child to predict the weather depending on if they saw their shadow or not!
