Eastplain Library Site - For Eastplain Teachers

** Special Note: Library looks a bit different this year. The physical space, yes, as it undergoes renovation. But also the lessons. As I move from room to room to teach, I decided to keep one thing consistent: For read-alouds, I will be concentrating on timeless classics this year. Cozy and nostalgic, each of the stories have a firm place in our culture and have been beloved for generations. Books such as Make Way for Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, Stone Soup, Winnie the Pooh, The Snowy Day, Amelia Bedelia, and many more. The lessons they share are as pertinent today as they ever were.

Picture book theme aside, I’d love to partner with you to help make learning more engaging, creative, and meaningful for our students. In the curriculum pacing calendars, I see opportunities where collaboration may enhance certain units--this might include me helping with that special "extra" project you always wanted to do. Below are just a few ideas; I’d love to tailor them with you to meet your students’ needs!

Lessons & Program Ideas

Event Planning: Support for larger-scale projects such as a Living Wax Museum (for a biography unit), Science Fair, project exhibits or shows, walking field trips to Plainedge Public Library, the Thanksgiving balloon parade, contests, and more.
Curated Book Recommendations: Thoughtfully selected, top-reviewed titles tailored to your class themes or to support the interests and needs of individual students or book clubs.
Research & Inquiry: Locating reliable information effectively, evaluating sources, questioning strategies, keyword searches, proper note-taking, and vocabulary building.
Literacy Boosters: Poetry pop-ups, fractured fairy tale writing, class recipe cookbooks, letters to authors or "pen-pals" at another school, and KidOYO coding challenges tied to literature.
Service Learning: Partnering with local community organizations to design and implement projects that benefit those in need. (Above, the "Spread the Love" Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive)
Media Literacy: Spotting real vs. fake news, recognizing bias, distinguishing fact from opinion, understanding copyright, practicing paraphrasing vs. plagiarism, and digital citizenship.

Technology & Innovation

K–1 Foundations: Chromebook log-in, basic keyboarding, and an introduction to safe website navigation.
Teacher & Student Workshops: Support with educational technology tools such as Google Workspace, KidOYO, Book Creator, Canva, Magic School (AI), WeVideo, Google Earth, Epic, PebbleGo, Padlet, and Britannica School.
Virtual Field Trips: Explore geographic landmarks, animal habitats, and cultural sites through guided online experiences.
Curated Digital Resources: I can gather age-appropriate websites for specific topics, arrange for links to be white-listed, and organize them into a clickable slide deck for easy student use.

Art & Performance

Custom Skits: Develop original skits on specific topics with roles for every student, including rehearsal time and a final performance. (See 4th grade Revolutionary War performers above.)
Story Walk: Create a custom story walk featuring student artwork, projects, writing, or themed displays connected to literature or curriculum.
Book-Inspired Crafts: Hands-on projects such as book-page crafts, illustration activities, or design challenges tied to stories.

Graphics & Design

Print & Digital Creations: I can assist teachers and students in learning how to make digital products: posters, flyers, infographics, and class newsletters to support lessons, events, or parent communication.
Video Production Support: Guidance with WeVideo for classroom projects, student showcases, or event highlights.
Student Publishing Projects: Help students create digital magazines, collaborative anthologies, or class recipe books.
