Onstage & a Backstage Pass

*Open to 6th grade students, duration = 1 quarter (1/2 semester) 

Here’s your ticket to explore the world of theatre!  Discover what happens ON STAGE by jumping on stage and ACTING yourself. Delve into technical theatre to learn what happens BACKSTAGE.  Finally, become a BROADWAY DESIGNER when you create your own costume, set, and publicity design packet based on an existing musical.  Class work includes: acting and characterization, building a collaborative community with classmates, developing original scripts for performance, and creating theatrical designs.

*Open to 7th grade students, duration = 1 semester 

Take center stage in this interactive study of the theatre production!  This course focuses on CREATING BELIEVABLE CHARACTERS through group and solo ACTING performances. Classwork includes: fundamentals of improvisation, storytelling, and children's theatre. Original scene work, script creation, and performance are perfected. To support the action on stage, students will develop skills in TECHNICAL THEATRE DESIGN.

The Play’s the Thing 

*Open to 8th grade students, duration = 1 semester 

Let’s put on a show!  In this ADVANCED THEATRE CLASS, students will use all their prior knowledge in ACTING, DESIGN, and TECHNICAL THEATRE, to put on a LIVE PERFORMANCE for an invited audience. ALL students will act and work behind the scenes. You will ultimately select, rehearse, design, and perform a final production at the end of the semester.
