The A+ Program is a program funded by the state of Missouri to provide scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools, including Parkway South High School, who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools.

Eligibility Requirements:
Students who wish to participate in the A+ Schools Program must apply
by February 1st of their senior (12th grade) year and meet the following requirements:
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Attend a designated A+ high school for two years prior to graduation (any two years of the 4 years).
Earn an accumulative high school grade point average of a 2.5-grade point or higher on a 4.0 scale (non-weighted).
Maintain a 95% high school attendance record for the 4 year period (attendance is not rounded up).
Perform 50 documented hours of unpaid tutoring or community service through a non-profit organization by May 1st of their senior year.
25 hours MUST BE tutoring
12.5 hours may be job shadowing
Establish a record of good citizenship with no drug or alcohol offenses.
Make a documented good faith effort to secure federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds during the last semester of the senior year so as to obtain the A+ financial incentive (FAFSA).
Achieve a score of proficient or advanced on the official Algebra I end of course exam.
To retain this eligibility after high school graduation, I understand that I must enroll and attend on a full-time basis a Missouri public community college or public career/technical school, AND maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Here are some options for earning tutoring hours:
(*TUTORING hours must occur on a Parkway campus and be supervised by a Parkway teacher. Community service opportunities NOT posted by Mrs. Hughes must get approval PRIOR to completing the hours.)
Courses at South High:
A+ Tutoring section of Cadet Teaching (senior year): Successful completion of one semester of this course will earn you all 50 hours. You must complete the application process during registration your junior year.
Service Learning (senior year): Successful completion of one semester of this course will earn you 25 community service hours. If interested, see Mrs. Gebhard for more details and enroll in the course during registration your junior year.
Career Pathways for the Teaching Profession Practicum - 40 hours (submit logs)
Child Development 2 - 12+ hours (submit logs)
P.E. Mentor - 50 hours (submit logs)
Other Tutoring Opportunities:
Volunteer to tutor for the EIA study lounge after school (See Ms. Hughes for details) (log hours)
Volunteer to tutor during summer school at the middle or elementary schools (log hours)
6th Grade Camp (50 tutoring hours): Parkway Outdoor School (6th grade camp) Counselor - applications due by September 1st!
Parkway/Rockwood Adventure Club (to count for A+ you would have to be unpaid/volunteering!)
Special Olympics Buddy (7 hours)
When funds are available, the A+ Program offers students up to 105% of an Associate’s Degree at an eligible Missouri technical school or community college. Some 4-year universities in Missouri independently offer scholarships.
Students may appeal absences when falling below the attendance requirement by completing the form and attaching appropriate documentation. The appeals committee will meet once or twice a semester to review appeals.
