Learning Goal: I can understand, define, and demonstrate what respect means and pledge to be respectful to all others.
Step 1. Do now: Define what you believe is the definition of respect without looking the definition up online.
Step 2. As a class, we will look up and discuss the definition of respect. You will enter the actual definition in your notebook and compare it to what you thought it meant. How did you do? Let's discuss.
Step 3. Underneath the definition, as a class, we will come up with synonyms to the word respect and agree that adding these words into our vocabulary will benefit others.
Step 4. We will create a positive classroom climate by sharing compliments about each other.

Step 4a. Draw a self-portrait and put your name on the top left corner.
Step 4b. As a class, we will go around the room one student portrait at a time (chosen at random) sharing compliments until every student shares a positive compliment about each one of their classmates, and the portrait is labeled with the compliments.
